Phil. 2:5 reads, "Let this mind which is in Christ Jesus, be also in you."

GET A NEW MIND-SET:

Years ago, in Chicago, a businessman hung a sign in his office with the header: "7 Steps Down!" Listed below, it read …. Don't Look … you might see, Don't listen … you might hear, Don't think … you might learn, Don't make a decision … you might be wrong, Don't walk … you might stumble, Don't run … you might fall, and Don't live … you might die!

I would like to add another, "Don't change … you might grow!"

Imagine what would happen in your own life, if you: Said the right words; read the right books; listened to the right tapes; spent time with the right people; did the right things; and prayed the right prayers. You would change; you would grow!

Phil. 2:5 reads, "Let this mind which is in Christ Jesus, be also in you."

I would like to suggest that there are at least six specific characteristics of the "Christ-like" mind:

Six Characteristics of the Christ-like Mind

    1. Alive - "The mind set on the Spirit is alive and peaceful" (Rom. 8:6).
    2. Single-minded - "I am afraid, lest …your minds should be led astray from the simplicity of devotion to Christ" (2 Cor. 11:3).
    3. Humble - "In lowliness of mind let each esteem others more highly than themselves" (Phil. 2:3).
    4. Pure - "Unto the pure of heart all things are pure; but, unto them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled" (Titus 1:15).
    5. Responsive - "He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures" (Lk. 24:45).
    6. Peaceful - "The mind set on the Spirit is alive and peaceful" (Rom. 8:6).

Do you have the mind of Christ? Are you genuinely peaceful?

Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross understood the importance of a Christ-like mind. One time a friend attempted to remind Clara of a cruelty she had suffered years before, but Clara seemed not to remember the incident.

"Don't you remember the wrong that was done to you?" the friend asked. "No," Clara answered calmly, "I distinctly remember forgetting that."

Someone has said, "God chooses what we go through. We choose how we go through it."
